AITA for defending my “racist” dad against my friend?

TA So, my (18F) friend “Jason” (17M) and I were hanging out after school the other day when he asked me if I wanted to go to the mall a few blocks away. I agreed, and we’re there for a while when my dad called to pick me up. I asked if he needed a ride, he said sure and we went outside. When we got in the car, my dad looked at Jason and asked him why we was wearing that jacket. Said jacket was one that had a huge American flag on it. He said because he grateful to be born here instead of somewhere else. My dad scoffed and asked him how someone like him could consider himself a real American when he isn’t white. Jason is black. He said that was extremely racist and said he wanted to get out of the car. I told him to relax because my dad was technically right, they didn’t come from here. He just glared at me and sat in a silent rage until my dad let him out. I said bye and he ignored me. Later on over text he tore me a new one saying I was defending my dad’s racist views. I told him my dad was only joking, but I knew this wasn’t true, I just wanted him to calm down. He didn’t believe me anyways. I kind of feel bad now because I’ve never seen him this mad before, AITA?
