Last summer my (22F) whole family who lives across the state came to visit me. We were talking about baby names and I said that my future baby would be called “Nalu”, my brother (29M) searched the meaning and discovered it means “wave/surf”.
2 months later my sister in law announced her pregnancy and told everyone that the baby’s name was going to be Nalu don’t matter the gender since it’s neutral. I got mad and told my brother it was f up that he decided to put the name I always wanted on his child, he responded that I was “trying to get into a fight and acting like a baby”.
My boyfriend (25M) bought a test as a joke since I was angry and it turned out I was also pregnant. After the shock we went to a doctor and found out I was already 16 weeks, we decided to keep it private because of all the judgement.
I tried to like other names but Nalu wouldn’t get off my mind, my boyfriend and I are both surfers and he literally lives of it bc he owns a surf school.
A week before my due date I told my family about the pregnancy and everyone except my brother celebrated. He told me that I should pick another name since his son was already going to be called Nalu. I didn’t even responded the text.
My daughter was born and we registered her as Nalu. My parents came to meet her and they told me this name was made for her bc she exudes surf energy.
Everyone loves the name but my brother and my SIL haven’t stopped to post/text me a lot of things calling me an asshole for naming my daughter their son’s name. So, AITA?
