I28m am married to my wife27f. We have a 6 year old daughter Renee who has Down syndrome and my wife’s pregnant. We keep her home often because she has an auto immune disease and we worry about sickness especially with Covid so we don’t go out often.
Over the weekend we had agreed to go to my sisters barbecue, because there wasn’t many people there. My sister friend from work Justine had seen Renee for the first time. Everyone was really nice to Renee and we were having a good time, until I walked past Justine and a few of my sisters other coworkers whispering about how monster like Renee was and how she was praying our child on the way wouldn’t look the same. She was a few drinks in, but I didn’t care and stopped immediately. I said, “Renee is cuter then your snotty kid.” Justine jaw dropped and we started arguing pretty heavily. I took my wife and Renee and left. Later on I got text from my sister who was really upset. She said I shouldn’t of said those things about Justine’s child, and that I should be the bigger person and apologize. I immediately refused and said I would defend my daughter regardless. My sister then also argued with me, and hasn’t talked to me since.
I defended my daughter and I’m proud of myself for it. I’m deeply upset anyone would say that about anyone with Down syndrome.
