Hello so im 26f living alone and i have a handfun for home defense.
I live in a state with the castle law allowing me to defend myself my property and my home.
Im also a very deep sleeper and work the night shift so im asleep during the day my whole apartment is blacked out so i can sleep.
So maintenance comes by randomly to change air filters. They knock and announce themselfs befor useing the master key and entering my apartment.
Problem is i am a deep sleeper so the knocking dosnt wake me up. Like at all. I only wake up to the sun now shining into my room with a stranger standing there.
So i naturally draw my weapon. But me being a responsible gun owner even in my half awake state see no wepon and he is standing still not moving so i dont fire. He then announced himself and says hes just changing the filters.
He changes them and leaves. I relock my door and go back to sleep.
This happened now 3 times with two diffrent ppl.
Me not wanting to explain to the cops why someone has a hole in the chest one day. I went out and bought another deadbolt that only i have the key too. For everyones safty.
I got called into a meeting from my landlord saying i need to remove it. I explain why i have it and everything thats happened now three times. They dont care and say if i dont remove it i would be evicted.
I removed the lock and told them i will probably continue to draw in my half awak state as a starnger is entering my home without me knowing. I asked if they could call along with k ocking in order to wake me up they refused. Saying its not their problem i dont wake up for the knocking.
They dont care.
