So to make things easier we are going to say:
Roommate one - Tim (dating Carly)
Roommate two - Carly (dating Tim)
Roommate three - Steven
Roommate four - Ana
Ana causes a lot of problems in the house, but one of the biggest is that Ana is LOUD, and the term “inside voice” means nothing to her. Our 3 bed 2 bath home has one bed and one bath downstairs where Carly and Tim stay who have been dating for 2.5 yrs, and 2 bedrooms one bath upstairs where the others stay. Tim and Steven were freshman roommates in college but this is the first time all three (Tim, Steven, and Carly) have lived together and are best friends since they all met three years ago.
Last Thursday, Steven was waiting to cook in the kitchen (lunch) and Tim was cooking for Carly and himself. Steven says he’ll wait for Tim to finish so he doesn’t get in the way and goes upstairs for a while. After Tim is done Steven comes downstairs and starts to cook. After a few minutes Tim gets up to go to his room and says,”i’m going to take a nap” and Steven thinks nothing of it, it’s their usual nap time (5:30pm and happens to be a Thursday) so it’s not that big of a deal. Ana walks downstairs. Ana starts talking to Steven in a loud tone as she usually does asking if she can do her laundry because she forgot to wash it yesterday and needs to have clean work clothes for the next day. I dismissed it saying it was my laundry in the dry but Tim wanted the washer and said it would be best to ask Tim or Carly. Carly walks out of the bathroom and Ana asks Carly to go ask Tim. Carly goes and asks Tim if it’s okay, and Carly comes back says it’s okay then went to lay down. Steven and Ana sit down to get a quick bite to eat on the couch outside their room. Ana talks in her usually loud tone and Steven talks in a lower tone as he knows his friends are asleep and the living room is right outside their door in hopes Ana will get a hint. Carly, out of nowhere, who has never done this before, texts Steven,”Can y’all lower your voices plz [Tim] said yall are loud lol…” Steven immediately responds and says,”yea no worries…” following with a “👍” when Carly responded “Ty.” However, Steven is now in the uncomfortable position of asking Ana to lower her voice or be quiet instead of Carly texting Ana too. Steven asks Ana to be quiet and now she gets up and walks away like as if I had said something foul or offensive. Steven goes upstairs and makes amends with Ana, but now it’s got Steven thinking.
After considering this, Steven now wants to know if he’s the asswhole if he says something to Tim and Carly about it because he doesn’t feel it’s fair they ask him to be quiet for their “beauty naps” in the middle of the afternoon.
