AITAH if I take the the owner of the lost dog to small claims court?

Sorry first time posting. I female 29 have been asked to watch a dog for a woman's mother early January who was in the hospital and rehab we agreed upon a price per week. The woman paid one week and when I tried to confirm she still wanted me to continue watching the dog (weeks later, February) she asked for me to contact her mother. I felt uncomfortable since the agreement was with the woman not the mother but nonetheless I did and was unsuccessful in contacting her. I let the woman know to which she said she would speak to her mother and pay me if not paid by the mother the end of the week. Weeks passed without a word from either and I had to get my wisdom teeth removed in March that night I noticed the dog was missing and proceeded to post him on social media. He was found and the woman who found him (Karen) refused to return him. I texted the daughter whom I made the agreement with with all the of Karen’s information and called her with no answer. The woman proceeded to text Karen to let her know her mother is in assisted living and she could keep the dog. My question is will I be an asshole if I try to take her to small claims court? Do I even have a case? I have only a text of the agreement and one week of pay on Venmo. Also the woman is a lawyer herself.
