Some backstory: His mother and I had a major falling out almost a year ago when I stood up to her for stonewalling me for an entire day while on vacation (+more), and was then berated for two hours with personal attacks using sensitive information I’d trusted her with the last decade. I’d had enough of her emotional manipulation in general by this point and decided to have no contact with his parents since then.
My boyfriend of almost 10 years and I have gone to telluride mushroom festival the last two years and have been looking forward to a third visit this year. It’s unbelievably beautiful there, lush forest filled with mushrooms, and all around the most amazing celebration of mushrooms/nature/people I’ve ever experienced. It’s a really special event.
His mom and dad bought tickets for the festival this year. It’s a really small town and all of the events are at the same locations over the course of 4-5 days. I don’t ever try to control his actions or relationships; I did ask him to tell them to not go to the festival though, so we could focus on enjoying it instead of keeping up with them and almost certainly running into drama. He also bought my very expensive ticket without me asking him to, told me he regretted buying it minutes later, and asked me to pay him back. I agreed to this. After learning that they’re going, I feel like the whole idea of going now is ruined and the focus won’t be on enjoying the festival no matter how much I intend for that. I’m pissed and hurt and annoyed. He said to grow a pair. Am I the asshole? I need advice.
