Some context: I’m a working college student, I pay a small rent fee, I usually leave the house every day, while my mom only goes to the office twice a week.
I (22) still live at home with my mom (50’s). For the decade we have lived in this house, she has parked her car on the street without issues. Now that she has a new car, she wants to park in the driveway and have me park on the street.
I don’t want to park on the street because birds nest in our tree and bird droppings are ugly and bad for car paint.
I suggested we both park in the driveway and I will never complain about switching cars.
She said no, she wants someone to be parked in front of our house on the street because she doesn’t want anyone else parking there. Her reasons for that are people leaving trash, and coming/going at odd hours (“which is disruptive.”) She is also worried about damage to her car, which has never been an issue. What about damage to my car?
We have neighbors on both sides that come and go at odd hours and I’ve never been disturbed by it, and I rarely see trash on the streets. I don’t care whether or not the space is occupied.
I’m tempted to tell her that if she wants the space saved so badly, she should park there herself.
AITA for not wanting to park my car on the street?
