Me and my group of friends were on a trip to Kyoto about a month ago. They have these really cool little side street shops and bars on really narrow streets that we wanted to check out. So the plan was we'd just look around a bit, then hop around the bars for a while. This went fine until we went into the second bar.
It took awhile, but the bartender/owner (IDK which) explained that one of our friends wasn't allowed in. He wasn't able to explain why, but one of the customers explained it was because of her skin. Our friend was the only darker skinned one in the group. You see Japan has certain different sensitivites to race compared to the West, and we knew coming here that somethinglike this would happen.
So we told our friend to just go find another bar (there were like four on that block alone) and we'd catch up later. Well a bit later they texted us and said they went back to the hotel, and for the rest of the trip they went off alone. They've been distant since, and said we could've just left with her, but I think that would've been disrespectful to do in another country.
