AITA - I called out my friend for being rude to a waiter

Recently, I went out to eat with a group of friends at a busy restaurant. While we were there, one of my friends, Tom, was extremely rude to our waiter. He was impatient, dismissive, and even raised his voice at the waiter when his food was taking too long.

I was uncomfortable with Tom's behavior and felt that it was completely uncalled for. I could see that the waiter was doing his best, and I didn't think it was fair to take out our frustrations on him.

So, I spoke up and called out Tom for his behavior. I told him that he was being rude and that it wasn't okay to treat someone that way, especially someone who was just doing their job. Tom didn't take kindly to my comment and accused me of being too sensitive.

After the meal, Tom and I got into a heated argument, and our other friends were caught in the middle. Some of them agreed with me, while others thought that I was overreacting and that Tom's behavior wasn't that big of a deal.

Now, I'm left wondering if I'm the asshole in this situation. Did I overstep my boundaries by calling out Tom's behavior? Should I have just let it go and not caused a scene at the restaurant? Or was I right to stand up for the waiter and speak out against rude behavior?
