This happened a few years ago, but it's been on my mind and I haven't figured out if I was in the wrong or not.
Some aquintances of mine were sharing an appartment, and when one of them got a new place they asked if I wanted to move in to her room.
While discussing the room with the girl moving out, she asked if I wanted to buy the standing mirror that she had gotten when moving in, as she wouldn't need it in her new place. I was quoted a price and did think it was a bit expensive (not like she was trying to scam me, but just on the pricier side for that type of mirror). I wasn't entirely convinced, but agreed to buying it.
I mentioned this to my mom who said she had a wall mirror in storage that I could take. I thought it was great to not have to spend any extra money, being a student and having very little money at the time. So I told the girl moving out that I had gotten a mirror for free so I wouldn't need to buy hers.
She was very upset by this, and said she really needed the money. I said sorry, but I don't need the mirror and won't buy it.
After she moved out she blocked me on all social media, and we never had any contact after that. We were never close friends, but I liked her so it stung a bit. I also got the feeling she talked about this with some mutual friends, and that they were on her side.
Was I the asshole for backing out?
