For context Me (16M) have an online best friend (17F) whomst I have known since the beginning or 2021. We have had our ups and downs but it felt like we were finally good when we started talking to each other again last year.
She is currently studying to become a doctor. It's not something she wants or has ever been interested in, her dad is just an asshole who guilt trips her when she tells him its not something she wants to do. I'm currently studying to hopefully major in internationa relations. Ever since we started talking again she made it very clear that she is definitely studying harder than I am and even went as far as to actively make fun of one of our mutual friends who is also pursuing a career in the humanities. She developed a sort of superiority complex and I must admit I was kind of feeding into it until it just became all too much. Last month I learnt that I may not be able to get into the school I wanted to get into and my parents thought it'd be best if i took up science as a discipline. This was definitely a shocker as I had pretty much my entire career planned out. She started telling me about how my life would be better if I didnt take up science as a discipline because STEM students study way more than humanities students and that my life would be better if I didnt take up science.
Now I agree that STEM students definitely have to study way but I just feel like she thinks she's better than me because shes pursuing a major she hates. She gets better grades than me - a fact that never goes unmentioned in our conversations. A few days ago I brought up this issue with her to which she replied ''I can't even deny that I have a superiority complex against Non-Stem students''. I was thrown off by this and just kind of stopped texting her until I realised that she is my best friend and we needed to fix our issues because this can cause a serious strain in our relationship.
So I did just that I told her I needed to talk to her and we did and she was just joking when she said those things and that she studies way more than others to which i replied ''I dont care how much you study you just make it a point to tell me how stupid I am everytime we talk'' AITA?
